The primary purpose of the Babysitter’s Training course is to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to give care safely and responsibly for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills and become better babysitters. They will learn how to build a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe, and learn about basic child care and basic first aid. 

Andrew Eckman recently retired after 45 years in emergency services (police, fire, EMS and emergency management). He has been a medical instructor for more than 30 years, and has trained several thousand participants in various life-saving skills.

This three-hour course is for firearm owners and non-owners. You will learn what to do when you see an attack or if you are attacked and respond with force. You will learn how to contact the first responders, how prosecutors might view what you did, rules about concealed carry in the US and Maine, and various ways to protect yourself without using a firearm. Co-Ed Basics of Pistol Handling

In a non-threatening safe environment with no live ammunition present, learn the basics of: handgun safety at home; how to handle a pistol safely; parts of a pistol and ammunition; fundamentals of pistol shooting including holding, stance and aiming; common malfunctions; cleaning; and selecting a pistol just right for you. The optional two-hour range time is separately scheduled and has a fee of $50 payable to the instructor. If you go to the range, you'll fire either your own pistol or one from the instructor and try to put five rounds of ammunition through 4 separate target circles at ten feet using only 20 rounds. You will need 50 rounds of ammunition for your personal handgun. If “renting” a pistol from the instructor, she will have 50 rounds of ammunition for you for a cost of $25.

To pass this nationally rated course and get certified you must: attend all sessions and actively participate, pass a written examination, and pass the ten-foot shooting qualification, all within two weeks of the last class session. Certification can be used to apply for a Maine Concealed Carry Permit. Optional but strongly suggested two-hour semi-private range lesson time will be scheduled separately from class and is an additional fee. Please call 563-2811 to register.
