In this course, BoomerTECH Adventures guides Chris, Jill, and Ed share their love of cooking and enjoyment for lots of diļ¬€erent types of foods. You will learn how to prepare several tasty stir fries using traditional Chinese flavorings, make fresh pasta, turn leftover sweet potato into gnocchi, stir up a great fried rice, and give ramen soup a delicious upgrade. In addition, you'll discover an easy way to make your own pita pockets, flatbreads, and tortillas. Plus, you will see a way to combine the benefits of cooking on cast iron with your love of grilling. We haven’t forgotten dessert! Who can resist a delectable chocolate brownie torte or apple pie?

BoomerTECH Adventures was begun in 2014 by three friends and colleagues, all Maine educators who have worked with adults and technology for more than 100 years (collectively)! We provide expert guidance and personalized resources for the 55+ age group to develop competence and confidence using Apple devices. Our team: Ed Brazee - tennis player, runner, “refocused” professor & author/editor; Jill Spencer - traveler, enthusiastic gardener and photographer, middle school teacher, international consultant, and author; Chris Toy - chef, YouTube cooking sensation, long-distance biker, school principal, international consultant, and author.

Prosperity and Good Fortune: Chinese Wonton Dumplings

We will make Chinese dumplings with pork filling made from scratch in class.  You will learn the multiple styles of folding dumplings using wonton wrappers.  Then we will boil the won ton to make a classic wonton soup or chili oil wonton.  Additionally, we’ll learn to make our own Sichuan-style chili oil and learn about other common Chinese condiments used for dipping sauces. All ingredients, materials, equipment and recipes will be provided. [Plant-based ground meat can be substituted for the pork upon request. The dumpling wrappers include gluten.]

You will have the opportunity to cook a four course Italian meal. Your hard work in the kitchen will be followed by a sit down dinner beginning with roasted tomatoes with basil/ burrata with focaccia, followed by chicken marsala and garlic buttered noodles as the main course and lemoncello tarimisu for dessert. You will savor your culincer creation all while sipping on a glass of wine. You will have the added pleasure of enjoying the company of those you have prepared the meal with and will most likely take home leftovers. Bring take home containers with you, just in case!
